The LC Power Gift of Gratitude honors a wounded warrior or organization with a monetary gift in recognition of his or her service, sacrifice and dedication. Named in honor of LC Power, a World War II veteran from Louisville, Kentucky, the award helps veterans and veteran based organizations in need of assistance. LC Power passed away in 2015 at the age of 99, but his legacy lives on through the generosity of his family.

LC Power received three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his service in Europe in World War II. Sent to war when his infant son was only 1 day old, Power’s first taste of battle was the Normandy invasion. He survived that – and being left behind in a foxhole by his company the next morning – to head deeper into the European conflict. He was wounded in action three times and involved in several decisive battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. Power’s Bronze Star was awarded for bravery in single-handedly dismantling a German foothold and snaring 13 German soldiers, who surrendered to the lone American soldier.
